The only crime the victims of the Nyaya park bomb blast in Abuja committed is “being a Nigeria citizen”. Senseless though the act but not without sense for the perpetrators. At a point I was compelled to advocate for ” a case of one man, one gun”. At least, the hoodlums operating under the disguise of MASSOB in the East will think of possible aggressive retaliation. The same signal will be sent to the Kidnappers of the South as well as the supposed Fulani herdsmen giving the middle belt sleepless night. But a closer look at it reveals that this advocacy is just a means to an end when confronted with the hostile North East Boko- Haram.
Why target the innocent Nigerians?. If it is a political fight, why not blast the house of representative, the Senate or better still, the Aso Rock villa?. If it is indeed a religious fight against Western education, why the killing of fellow religion believers?. Why not go to the root of Western civilization and gun down the British. These and many more questions reverberated in my heart. An attempt to find answers to them end up making the local pharmaceutical store close to my house rich in the sells of paracetamol and I degenerate into praying for the souls of the dead.
One of my favourite poet is Aeschylus. He once wrote: “even in our sleep, pain which we can not forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, until, in our own despair, against our will, comes the awful grace of God.”.
Let us dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: “To tame savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world”. Let us dedicate ourselves to that, and say a prayer for our country and for the soul of all the deceased.
Thank you all………..
